Adorned with figures and lavish ornamentation, the 111-metre long City Hall is the political heart of the Hanseatic City and a symbol of the city’s pride. It took 55 years to plan and complete it, and it was finally inaugurated on 26 October 1897 with a festival for the citizens. Today, it is the seat of the city council and the parliament of the City of Hamburg.
